VA Yesterday's Gold: 600 Golden Oldies 25 CD's

This is a huge collection of music from the 50's and very early 60's. 600 songs altogether in 320 CBR MP3 format. There are 5 boxsets labeled as volumes 1 through 5. Then each boxset contains 5 CD's which are also labeled as volumes. This was how it organized when I got it. I'm grateful for all the work that the original upload team spent of this set. But there were some opportunities to retag the collection a bit more coherently. I ignored the boxes and treated the collection as a 25 volume set. Rather like this: So each disc is simply tagged with disc number from 1 to 25. The collection had been ripped by a team and there were several genres. I just called the whole collection "oldies". VA - Billboard Top Rock 'n' Roll Hits

Rhino issued these compilations for the years 1955 through 1974. Starting for 1975 Rhino issued dropped the "Rock'n'Roll" from the title and just calls them "Top Hits" and the compilations drift away from a Rock focus. This is a complete set of the "Rock 'n' Roll" discs. Rhino selected 10 excellent songs for each year, but these are not anyone's idea of the 10 best songs of the year. Rhino was limited by what they could obtain. As one example, The Beatles utterly dominated the second half of the sixties, yet there are no Beatles songs. Despite its shortcomings, the collection has a unique temporal balance because it allows each year the amount of contribution. And listening to it year by year you can get a good understanding of how rock evolved over these two decades. I made a playlist file for each disc. VA - Golden Retro Hits

This is an unusual collection with with a lot of songs that you probably will not find in and other collection. Any hit from the 20th century was fair game. Rum and Coca-Cola was the top hit of 1945, while Hey Jude, The Beatles biggest hit, was released in 1968. These were released by East Records as 4 two-CD sets. Despite this, I have treated the collection as a 8 CD set and that is how I tagged it, numbering the discs from 1 to 8.
